Bagless Days (6 – 8)

Pupils of Classes VI-VIII enjoyed a day of fun activities after their Half-Yearly Examinations. The pupils of Class VI prepared skits based on selected English stories. They designed charts and props which helped them to enact their skits. Thereafter, using chia, basil or mustard seeds, suitable containers and tissue papers the pupils set up a soaking demonstration. They prepared charts and delivered presentations on the nutritional importance of ‘Microgreens’.
An assembly, with a message to save water, was presented by a few nature-enthusiasts of Class VII. Members of CEMO (Centre for Ecological Movement) graced the occasion with their presence. The next activity for the pupils included a discussion on films and the history of filmmaking. They were shown two short films, namely, ‘Cops’ by Buster Keaton and ‘Police’ by Charlie Chaplin. In the second half of the day, the pupils prepared skits based on certain topics from Value Education and texts from English or Bengali Literature. They also fashioned simple props and costumes using items which they could easily procure.
Students of Class VIII watched the movie ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ and wrote a review on it. They, then, prepared a skit on the theme ‘If I could be…’ where they impersonated their idol in life, fictional or real. The next activity was based on Mathematics in which the pupils had to craft various geometric shapes and show how different objects used in real life are made up of a combination of such shapes. The students enjoyed participating in these activities; at the same time, it was a rich learning experience for them.
