\nAnd life bleeds from his heart fast;
\nAs the last rays of day wither and die :-
\nThe forest is torn by the lone wolf\u2019s cry.
\nLight and darkness ferociously spar,
\nWith trident, and spear, and scimitar!
\nWhilst from above the lone wolf looks down-
\nHis scarred eyebrows arched in a perpetual frown.<\/p>\n
\nAnd darkness cackles with poisonous mirth;
\nThe forest\u2019s teeth gleam like a thousand sickles,
\nGlittering in the river of death as it trickles.
\nAs the howling wind cuts a venomous stream,
\nAnd malignant spirits rant and scream,
\nThe silver moon breathes a melancholy sigh
\nAccompanied by the lone wolf\u2019s cry.<\/p>\n
\nAnd the dark pine trees rustle to a boil,
\nAs the night-birds stop their singing,
\nAnd only the sound of silence is ringing;
\nIn stygian blackness his steely claws glint,
\nHis rigid composure betraying no expression or hint;
\nBetween the ivory forest gates,
\nIn solitude forever the lone wolf awaits<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
