A trip to Delhi and Agra

A trip to Delhi and Agra

Yazdan Amin, VI F (2019-20)

5th October was the day I was waiting for because that day we were going to Delhi. Our flight was at 11:10 a.m. I was very excited. We set out at 7:30 a.m. for the airport. It was a 2-hour flight from Kolkata to Delhi.

I was so excited when we landed in the India Gandhi International Airport. Our hotel was far from the airport. We reached our hotel at noon. In the evening we went to see the India Gate which was beautifully illuminated.

On the second day we decided to go to Jantar Mantar but unfortunately it was closed. In the evening we went to see the Lotus Temple.

On 7th October we went to Gurgaon Gurugram to a place called ‘Kingdom of Dreams’ to watch a live play called ‘Zangoura’. It was about a boy whose father and mother were killed as they were the king and queen, when the boy was a baby. The boy didn’t know that he was the real king. After watching the play, we went to see the Qutub Minar. The guide told us many new and amazing facts about the ancient monument. On the 4th day, we went to see the Parliament house, Rashtrapati Bhawan, and the Red Fort. In the Red Fort, I saw many interesting things, the most important being the place where the flag hoisting is done by our Prime Minister every Independence Day. Thereafter, we went to Rajghat where the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, was cremated.

Next day, the 8th of October, we took the train called Gatimaan Express to Agra. It is the fastest train in the country, which can travel at 160 km/hour. We reached Agra within 2 hours. In Agra we saw Fatehpur Sikri, the Agra Fort, and the Taj Mahal. Fatehpur Sikri is the place Akbar lived in with his family. Akbar’s son Jahangir was born in this place. From there, we went to see the Taj Mahal. It is one of the Seven Wonders of the world. It is an amazing structure, which is made of white marble and is symmetrical on all sides. Taj Mahal is a tomb built for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. Next day, we went to see the Agra Fort from where the four emperors – Akbar, Jahangir, Shah Jahan, and Aurangzeb – had ruled.

On 11th October, we returned to Delhi. We went to many market places like Palika Bazaar, which is India’s first underground market, Chandni Chowk, and Sarojini Naidu market. We purchased sweets and gifts for our friends and relatives back in Kolkata. The following day, we returned to Kolkata.

This trip to Agra and Delhi was indeed a very memorable experience. I not only enjoyed it but also learnt many new things. These memories will remain with me forever.
