Description:

As another academic year came to an end, it was time for us to bid farewell to our dear Class II pupils who were bubbling with enthusiasm, all ready for the next class. The special assembly began with our primary school Director, Ms Ratna Bose addressing the outgoing pupils, followed by Ms Debjani Chatterji speaking to the children on behalf of all teachers. This was followed by a talent display where pupils from all six sections entertained the audience with their performance. The class teachers of Class II sang songs for their pupils, wishing them the very best for the next class. The assembly concluded with Ms Anomitra Roy, the coordinator, reading out a heartfelt ‘Goodbye poem’ to the outgoing batch, reminding them that they would always be loved and remembered by all.

The Class I pupils were the perfect audience for the show and felt special when they were reminded that they would now be the senior most children in the primary department.

Description:

Yoga promotes physical and mental well-being. Our students learnt a few yoga asanas which would help them to deal with stress and anxiety, enhance concentration, increase strength, and improve flexibility of their muscles.

Description:

The pupils of Classes VI, VII, and VIII learnt about the basics of Micro:bit coding. They programmed the device to perform simple tasks like displaying text and adding numbers. They were amazed to learn about its applications and the power of technology in the real world.

This activity helped students develop valuable skills like design thinking, prototyping, coding, and working with materials and electronics

Pupils of middle school planned, prepared and delivered presentations on various Sustainable Development Goals including Climate Action (SDG Goal 13), Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG Goal 6), Good Health and Well-Being (SDG Goal 3), Life Below Water (SDG Goal 14), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG Goal 11), Zero Hunger (SDG Goal 2) and Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG Goal 12). The project was an engaging as well as enriching experience for the students.

Description:

Equipped with the knowledge of climate change and its effects on our planet the pupils of Class Vl resolved to act to minimise the impact of this phenomenon. They made charts, enacted skits, and composed songs to spread information about the Sustainable Development Goal 13, Climate Action. They made a working model on rainwater harvesting, and other models and charts, showing a distressed planet, and an ideal one without the harmful effects of climate change. It was heartening to see our young students collaborating and working in teams and taking up the cause with such seriousness.

Description:

Paper lanterns are often used for cultural and festive purposes all around the world. In Japan, paper lanterns are a symbol of good luck and happiness. Paper lanterns are also used to attract visitors in Vietnam. In India, lanterns made of wooden sticks that are covered with coloured paper are well known. This type of lantern is usually hung in front of houses during Diwali. These lanterns are traditionally built in a crystal shape with tails at the bottom. Pieces of coloured paper and fabric cut into complex designs enhance the beauty of the lantern.

The students of Class VI proudly displayed their paper lanterns which added a touch of warmth and beauty to their classrooms.

Description:

The pupils were taken on an educational trip to Birla Industrial and Technological Museum. They explored the various scientific exhibits followed by an enriching experience at the High Voltage Theatre, Science Magic Show and 3D movie show. It was an enjoyable as well as enlightening visit for them.

The pupils were taken on an educational trip to Science City. They took the Dark Ride and explored The Science exploration Hall and The Dynamotion Hall. The trip ended with an enriching experience in the Space Odyssey. It was an enjoyable trip.

Description:

The pupils of Garden High School attended a session with Dr. Swati Mohan. Dr. Mohan shared her journey and her experience as a scientist at NASA. She advised the pupils to :

  • know and accept who they are,
  • create their own support system, and
  • actively do their best.

She highlighted how the successful Mars Mission of NASA was different from the previous ones. Our students asked relevant questions during the interactive session. It was a great learning experience for the students.

Description:

Pupils of Nursery I, Nursery II, the Preparatory and Class I participated in the Pre-primary Inter School Fest hosted by DPS Ruby Park School on 24 February, 2024. The pupils participated in two offstage and two onstage events. The children participating in ‘Prop the Beat’ danced to the beats of an English song, using a variety of handmade props. For ‘Braid the Beads’, Anasuya Agasty’s story telling was appreciated by all. She was quick to guess the story from the given clue and narrated the same with confidence on stage.

The craft work of the children for ‘Spring Amalgam’ and ‘Zootopia’ was creative and neatly done.

The coordinators for the event were Ms Debjani Chatterji and Ms Payel Biswas.

Description:

The teachers of the Senior School and the pupils of Class XII gathered at Hall 1 to bid farewell to the pupils of the ISC Batch of 2024. Our Principal, Mrs Rajashri Biswas in her speech urged the pupils to choose peace and empathy and be honest in all they do. She offered words of encouragement for the ISC Examination and their future ahead.

Samraat Samiksh Sen, head boy and Sarika Banerjee, head girl, took the mike to share their experiences from Nursery I to Class XII. They expressed their gratitude to teachers for their unwavering support throughout their school years.

Performances ranging from dance and speech by Sheersha Banerjee, recitations by Soumee Bhaumik, Nirjar Datta and Anoushka Sen and group songs by the pupils entertained all present. The subject-based quiz for the teachers generated a lot of excitement. Teachers, Ms Arpita Mukhopadhyay Maiti and Ms. Papiya Ghosh mentioned that this batch was special and reminded them that it was important to grow up to be a good human being.

These were followed by food, informal chats and photography sessions.

As this Class of 2024 embark on a new journey, we hope they will carry with them fond memories and values learnt at Garden High School.

Description:

The pupils of Classes I and II participated in the annual elocution competition with great enthusiasm. There were twelve participants in each class, two from each section. All the participants recited their poems with clarity and confidence.

The event was ably compered by ARSHIYA SENGUPTA (IIA) and DEBASMEET SAHA (IID). The entire event was planned and managed by our teachers, Ms Debjani Chatterji, Ms Sunanda Ganguli and Ms Purba Ghosal.

Ms Sunitha Bhatt and Ms Anomitra Roy were the judges for the competition.

Although all the children did their best and were encouraged for their efforts with prizes, three children from each class were adjudged the winners in the following order:

Description:

14 pupils participated in an interactive and engaging session on “Air quality issues, solutions and general awareness’ organised by the U.S Consulate, Kolkata. Dr. Richard Peltier, Professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, addressed a packed room of pupils from all over the city. Dr. Peltier is a member of the WHO’s Global Air Pollution and Health Technical Advisory Group. He is an expert in air quality assessment and human exposure science. It was an enriching experience for the pupils.

Soumee Bhaumik of Class XIIB made it to the top 50 among more than 10,000 nominations from all over eastern India. 18 top achievers were chosen from 50.

Soumee, was declared one of the 18 winners by eminent juries and was awarded a trophy, memento and a certificate.

The junior most children of the primary department presented a colourful Christmas programme with great enthusiasm and excitement. Children enacted a nativity play, sang Christmas carols and danced to their tunes. They were dressed in colourful costumes and everyone looked bright and cheerful. The programme ended with everyone singing ‘Santa Claus is coming to town’ and ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’ in chorus.

The Peninsula Studios FootPrint Film Festival Kolkata edition in collaboration with AMI Arts festival had organized a film making competition for schools.
Three films made by Garden High School students have been selected by the FOOTPRINTS film jury to be shown at the FootPrint Film Festival.

Description:

Sheersha Banerjee from Garden High School was adjudged Winner of Bengal School Debating – Star of The Year organized by The Telegraph Young Metro with Calcutta Debating Circle in Association with MCKV and Narayana Group of schools. Out of 400 entries at the preliminary level, from all over West Bengal, 48 pupils, across three centres, i.e. Kolkata, Burdwan and Siliguri, 3 of them from Garden High School reached the semi-finals.

The semi-final round was held on 5 December 2023, Out of 14 finalists chosen, 3 were from Garden High School. Ariv Paul, Anusha Chowdhury and Sheersha Banerjee debated well and entered the finals. We are very proud of you. On 8 December 2023, the final round took place at Vidya Mandir Auditorium, Moira street where Sheersha Banerjee was declared the Best Speaker and won the trophy.

Heartiest congratulations to Sheersha, for her outstanding performance.

Description:

Nine pupils of Class XI B along with two teachers went on a field trip to Santiniketan. Their project was based on the working of a manufacturig industry and on self-employment. The pupils interviewed the kantha artisans, workers at the leather factory at Amar Kutir and beekepers and honey producers . It was a great learning experience for the pupils.

GARDEN HIGH SCHOOL was declared the CHAMPION SCHOOL among 17 schools at the KRISHTI ANNUAL FEST 2023, an inter-school fest organized by VIVEKANANDA MISSION SCHOOL, JOKA. 39 pupils from classes VI to XI participated in 15 different events.The events in which our pupils won prizes are :-

Dance Category 1-Srobona Majumdar(8E) secured the second position.

A Twist In A Tale- Sauragni Banejee(8A) and Arshia Datta(8E) were adjudged the winners.

Photography-Souradip Bose(8F) secured the third position.

Music Vocals Category 2-Monoswita Sengupta(11A) secured the second position.

Ad Mad Show-Udit Ray(11C), Monal Choudhury(11C), Paromita Chatterjee(11C) and Rithvik Saha(11C) secured the third position.

Band performance- Adrija Mukherjee(11B), Luvna Munshi(11C), Kaustav Mandol(10C), Jeet Nandi(10F),Sayantan Ghosh(10F)and Ashmita Mandal(9D) bagged the first prize.

Street Play-Indubrata Das(11A), Arkoaalok Gangopaadhyay(11A), Ritisha Biswas(11A), Ayushman Saha(11A), Sheehan Paul(11A), Archishmaan Chakraborty(9B), Dibyayan Bandyopadhyay(9C), Soumily Choudhuri(9D), Samadarshee Roy(9D)and Sparsh Lohia(9E) secured the second position.

Description:

Pupils of Nursery I, II and the Preparatory class participated in the Pre-primary Inter School Fest hosted by BDM International School on 5 December, 2023. Pupils of Nursery I participated in Gambol, the Zumba Dance competition, and won the third prize.

Pupils of Nursery I and II participated in the fashion show. Their theme was Retro. They walked the ramp confidently, wearing costumes made out of newspaper and magazine pages.
Children of the Preparatory Class took part in an off-stage craft making event, Creative Hands. They had to make an item of daily use with recycled materials. They made a vase using a plastic bottle and then decorated it with acrylic paints and paper.

This fest was an excellent platform to express themselves through various fun-filled activities.

Description:

Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan (VVM) is a science-based examination for the pupils of grades VI to XI, under the initiative of Vijnana Bharati, in collaboration with NCERT, Government of India and National Council of Science Museum (NCSM).

The first level digital examination results were declared on 11 November 2023 and 123 students had been selected to participate in the State level camp West Bengal (South) Region 2.
Kushagra Mandal and Ananda Basu from Garden High School were selected for the State level camp.

Kushagra Mandal stood second in the State level camp and has been selected for the National level camp to be held in the month of May 2024.

Description:

All Pupils of Class 12 were taken to Premdan, a unit of Missionaries of Charity for Senior citizens, accompanied by a few teachers. They distributed biscuit packets and interacted with the residents. The pupils, on each day, put up a musical show which was greatly appreciated by Mother Superior, the Sisters and all the residents. It was a learning as well as a humbling experience for all.

Description:

The pupils played the PlayNomics game ‘Win-Win’ which was a simulation of International Trade. The pupils were divided into nine teams with 9-10 members in each. Each team represented a country and each country was allocated a certain amount of resources depending on the economic and financial status of the country. The teams were allowed to barter/exchange/buy/sell resources with the intent of making maximum money. The session was followed by a brief discussion to bring to light the nuances of International Trade connecting the key concepts of Economics, Mathematics, Business Studies and Accounts.

The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the activity based learning session.

The children went back home carrying small gift packets from school as a token of love.

‘Diwali’ the festival of lights was celebrated by the pupils of Class I with a lot of enthusiasm. The children presented a skit on the legendary story of The Ramayana and danced to a couple of foot-tapping Diwali songs. The significance of Dhanteras and lighting of clay lamps on this dark new moon night was also enacted. The assembly ended with all children singing some festive songs together.

The pupils of Nursery II, invoked the blessings of Maa Durga through their special assembly on ‘Durga Puja’. They celebrated the spirit of Sharod Utsav through a short skit, Puja songs and merry dances. The little ones dressed as Maa Durga, Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Saraswati, Lord Kartik and Lord Ganesha looked and played their roles with aplomb. Maa Durga with her family was seen getting ready to travel down to Earth, from Mount Kailash, to spend a few days with her paternal family, eagerly waiting to celebrate their homecoming.

Pupils of Garden High School attended an interactive session on World Mental Health Day organized by Sushila Birla Girls’ School. Participants from different schools put forward the challenges faced by the youth today. The session was moderated by the consultant clinical psychologist, Ms. Srishti Saha. There was a quality circle time, an activity based on these challenges. The participants from GHS spoke with confidence shared opinions on relevant issues of peer pressure, parental issues, expression and management of anger and importance of emotional quotient. The session ended with Dr Sanjay Garg reflecting on effective coping skills and a brief Q&A series based on the session.

It was a good exposure for our students, encouraging them to share their views on mental health issues confidently.

It is an initiative conducted under the aegis of Dr Samir Parikh, Chairperson Fortis National Mental Health Program. It is a national level psychology quiz with over 800+ school participation.

It was an enriching experience for the participants who expressed their desire to participate in more such events.

Description:

Swachhata Pakhwada, an initiative by the Ministry of Education was observed from 1September to 15 September. The pupils of the primary department were shown power point presentations and videos on the importance of cleanliness and how we can contribute to ushering in a ‘Clean India’. Children took a pledge and also performed a skit on personal hygiene. They made colourful posters, fun sheets and various other craft items using recycled products. All of these were displayed in the library on the final day as an exhibition. All pupils under the supervision of their teachers participated in event with great enthusiasm.

A brief programme was organized, on the theme ‘Unity in Diversity’. The programme began with a short enactment showcasing the harmony underlying the festivals of India. The theme was taken forward with enthusiastic speeches on how peace and harmony can be spread through songs and music and the need for national integration in India. Two songs and a vivacious dance performance by the students complemented the programme.

Description:

This was a remarkable scouting experience for the participants. Two ex-students of Garden High School, Stutti Periwal and Shreya Sutradhar represented India as ISTs (International Service Team).

The Jamboree started off with an opening ceremony. The Honourable Chief Ambassador, Bear Grylls instilled the spirit of scouting through his opening speech. The Jamboree included various off-site and on-site activities like river rafting, Korean traditional games, paragliding, rock climbing, cultural exchange programmes and many more.

6th of August, which was marked as the Cultural Exchange Day, was one of the most colourful days in the Jamboree. Participants from different countries wore their traditional outfits, made traditional food and played their traditional games. It was a great opportunity for the scouts to know about the various cultures of the world. The Jamboree ended with a closing ceremony and K-pop concert.

It was a great opportunity for the scouts to develop their leadership skills and make memories and friends that would last a lifetime.

Monthly seminar organised by Satikanta Guha Centre for Culture and Learning resumed for the Academic Year 2023-24 with a seminar titled ‘Attitude of Learning and Teaching Chemistry’ by Prof. Nitin Chattopadhyay.

Professor (Dr.) Nitin Chattopadhyay is a professor in the Department of Chemistry, Jadavpur University since 2006. His areas of specialization encompass Photochemistry & Spectroscopy, Biophysical Chemistry, Surface Chemistry, Fluorescence Sensing, Polymer Photophysics, Photoacoustic Calorimetry etc.

With his erudite talk, mixing examples of daily life with theoretical concepts, Prof. Chattopadhyay raised some well-known aspects of “Chemistry Teaching” or “Science Teaching” in general. He emphasized that Chemistry is not a subject to memorize only, it is also possible to have experiential learning with Chemistry.

Pupils of Classes XI and XII Science stream interacted with the speaker and liked the session.

Description:

Pupils of Classes VIII to XII of the Academic Year 2022-23 received their prizes on 14 July 2023.

The Founder-Rector, Mr I. Guha, lit the ceremonial lamp.
The Principal, Ms Rajashri Biswas, addressed the audience, reiterating the School’s commitment to academic excellence. Ms Biswas emphasized the need to embrace the changes that New Education Policy 2020 will bring in and to look for the opportunities it presents.

The Variety Programme had ‘Rejuvenation’ as its theme and it comprised inaugural music, dance performances, a musical choir and staging of the Bengali play ‘Lakshmaner Shaktishel’.

Prizes were given away by the Founder-Rector, Mr I. Guha. Ten special prizes were also given to meritorious pupils. Aaranyak Ray (ICSE 2023 All India Rank: 2nd, State Rank: 2nd), Aishwarik Dey (ICSE 2022 All India Rank: 2nd, State Rank: 2nd) and Proshomit Kumar Mitra (ISC 2022 All India Rank: 3rd, State Rank:3rd) were also given special prizes for their performances in the Board Examinations.

The House Trophy went to Chinar.

The students listened with rapt attention to Sri Indranath Guha, who encouraged the children of Class VIII to work hard as they were on the threshold of the first two important years of their academic career. Sabu, University of Calicut, was an enriching experience. Different aspects of bird behaviour and bird watching, as a hobby, shared by Dr. Nilansu Das, Head, Department of Molecular Biology, Surendranath College, kept us mesmerised. On this occasion, Dyooti Bhattacharya  of Garden High School presented a poster on Tissue Culture. She explained the methods of micropropagation, somatic embryogenesis, embryo culture etc. Her presentation was highly appreciated.  Overall, it was a unique learning experience for Dyooti.

On 3.5.23, Wednesday, Garden High School hosted a university fair organized by Blue Sky Education.

Pupils of classes 11 and 12 had the opportunity to personally interact with admission officers from these institutions and get information about the courses, admission procedure, application, scholarships, internships etc.
