What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up?

What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up?

Dakshayeni Bharadwaj, X A (2018 – 19)

A common question we’ve come across during our student lives.

When we were younger, we used to say ‘I want to be a princess’ or ‘I wish to be a superhero.’

Then when we grew up a little, people expected more mature and serious answers.

Painter, singer, dancer.

But now, when we are standing at the most important juncture of our lives and must embark on a new journey, we must find our own true selves.

There are some, who from the very beginning have decided what they want to be when they grow up, and they work hard for it- doctor, engineer, scientist….

But what about those who are still unsure of the career they’d be choosing? What about those who aren’t sure whether to go by what their parents say or become what their hearts desire.

Not all of us are brilliant. Not all of us get a 100 on 100 in science subjects. Some are good in sports, some in music, some in cooking. Can’t these be chosen as our profession?

Sure there are risks and there is a matter of luck and politics, but once you become the best, you become the best. So, it’s no harm to become the way you imagine yourself to be.

Maybe some of us will have a smaller home, a Nano instead of a Jaguar and maybe a lesser salary than others. But we will be happy. At the end of the day, that is what matters .

So, be what you want to be. Show people that you are able, and do what you love. Love what you do, by adding life to days, not days to life!
