The ‘Winter Street Carnival for Inclusion’ event was organised by Noble Mission and presented by Samaj Sebi Sangha, with the idea of inviting special schools, inclusive schools, and mainstream schools as well as youth groups from colleges and other social service organisations to the same platform for the same events for promoting inclusion.
The Open-Door Festival for inclusivity included several events, cultural programmes and games among others. The students from Garden High school participated in the Non-Flame Cooking Contest where they were put in pairs, along with pupils from the special schools and inclusive schools. They bagged the 2nd prize in this event.
In the Art & Craft session, the students of Garden High School shared the same arena with some differently abled pupils, and their artwork was displayed together.
For the quiz, 4 pupils of Garden High School were placed in 4 separate groups. Each team consisted of three participants, which included one special child and another team member from the different associated committees. They were awarded trophies and certificates for their performance.
It was an enjoyable event where the students became more aware of the needs of inclusivity in the society at large. The pupils of Garden High School interacted with the special children, encouraged them and were happy to be a part of this great mission.

Krishti 2024, the Annual Inter-School fest was held at Vivekananda Mission School, on 9 December 2024. Garden High School bagged several prizes in different events and was also awarded the Champion’s Trophy.
Deyasini Mukherjee (VIIIC), representing Garden High School, received the 1st prize in Photography.
Shreyan Dam (VIII A) stood 1st in Canvas Painting.
Garden High School also won the 1st prize in the event named A Twist in the Tale. The participants were Samragnee Das (VIII E) and Aishani Shome (VIII E).
The team from Garden High School participating in the Street play competition was declared the winner. The actors were Aaron Dey (IX A), Megholina Banerjee (IX B), Swayam Mukhopadhyay (IX B), Semanti Mukherjee (IX D), Utkarsh Roy (IX E), Devaarto Ganguli (IX E), Ahana Chatterjee (XI A) and Sk. Sussan Rahaman (XI D).
Rohini Poddar (IX A) and Amrita Naskar (IX E) participated in the non-fire cooking contest and came 2nd.
Adrija Das (VI D) and Srobona Majumdar (VIII E) stood 2nd in the Folk Dance of Northeast India and Classical Forms of India respectively. In the Fusion dance round Sreenita Banerjee (XI D) stood 3rd.
In the event named Raise your Voice, Anusha Chowdhury (XI A) bagged the 2nd prize while Aadhira Chatterjee (VI F) came 3rd in the Music Vocals (Theme Baul).
Garden High School stood 2nd in Mad Ad Show. The participants were Akansha Menon (XI C), Arghyadeep Chanda (XI C), Samvit Sinha (XI C) and Tanish Sachin Pal (XI C).
Riona Deb (IV C) was awarded the 3rd prize in Story Telling.
Atraiu Basak (V F) came 3rd in Cosplay.

Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan (VVM) is a science-based examination for the students of Classes VI to XI, under the initiative of Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA), in collaboration with NCERT, Government of India and National Council of Science Museum (NCSM). The State Level Camp focused on application orientated multiple choice questions, hands-on activities, observation and analysis, situational problem-solving ability and a series of other activities.
The results for the first level of the digital examination held on 23 October 2024 and 27 October 2024 were declared on 15 November 2024. Aadhira Chatterjee (VI F), Kushagra Mandal (VIIC) and Kalpita Roy (VIIC) of Garden High School qualified for the State Level Camp (SLC) from the junior group (VI-VIII) of West Bengal South zone. Kalpita ranked 1st and Kushagra ranked 3rd in SLC.
Kalpita has been selected for the National Level Camp of VVM to be held in May 2025.

On 7 December 2024, the pupils of Garden High School actively participated in a noble initiative to support the Missionaries of Charity. Under this programme, the children collected essential items such as bars of soap, noodles, biscuits, toothbrushes and toothpaste.
The collected items were handed over to Sister Maria and Sister Cecelia, the sisters from the Missionaries of Charity, who visited the school to receive the donations. The initiative aimed to instil a sense of responsibility and compassion among the students, encouraging them to contribute to the welfare of the underprivileged.
The Sisters expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the students, staff and parents for their thoughtful contributions. They highlighted how these donations would help in providing daily essentials to those in need.
The meaningful drive not only provided assistance to the less fortunate but also reinforced the values of kindness and generosity among the students.

A career counselling session was conducted by IIHM for the students of Class XI. The pupils were provided with details about courses offered, admission procedures, campus life and placement opportunities at the Institute.
The pupils interacted with Ms Ranjana Berry, a college delegate. A student studying presently at IIHM shared experiences about college life which made the session even more interesting.

On 29 and 30 November 2024 a Science Exhibition was organized in the Garden High School premises. It was inaugurated by the chief guest, Dr Dipyaman Ganguly, an eminent physician-scientist and human immunologist.
The students presented their projects, charts and models. They also organised visual presentations and live demonstrations to help everyone understand the concepts of their working models.
The Physics counter included projects on hydraulics, refraction, total internal reflection and solar power among others. The Chemistry section displayed colourful reactions, intricate models and intriguing experiments which attracted the attention of all visitors. The topics included Atoms, Electric Pen, Steam Distillation for Essential Oils, Bio Plastic, Carbon Filter, Acid Rain, Iodine Clock and Importance of Chemistry in the field of Forensics.
Pupils in the Biology section delved deep into the ‘World of DNA’. In the Mathematics exhibition, the students demonstrated various Mathematical concepts like Types of angles, Pythagoras theorem, Polygons, Algebraic identities and Fibonacci series. Many Mathematics based games were also part of the exhibition.
The Computer Science section contained working models using microbits, presentations on cybersecurity, interactive games on password cracking and applications such as sign language detection using computer vision. The AI and Robotics corner displayed unique ideas such as the solar speed boat, Xenu pet bot and a security humanoid robot.
Students of Economics prepared models and charts on various relevant topics like business cycle, vicious cycle of poverty, production possibility curve, globalization and e-commerce. The Home Science department made presentations on napkin folding, natural dyeing, stain removal, vegetable and fruit carving.
The exhibition generated great enthusiasm and active participation from pupils. It was an opportunity for them to translate the theoretical scientific principles into the mode of application in the form of observable phenomena.

A team of three professors from Christ University conducted a career counselling session for the pupils of Class XI. The details about their various campuses, course structure, admission procedures and placement opportunities at the university were discussed. The pupils interacted with the delegates with great enthusiasm and learnt about the available opportunities.

A career counselling session was conducted by Mr. Vishal Pratap Singh, a delegate from Plaksha University for the pupils of Class XII. The pupils were provided with details about courses, admission procedures, campus life and placement opportunities at the university.
Classes XI and XII (Science).
A career counselling session was conducted by Dr. Maumita Sengupta, Associate Professor and Academic Relationship Head of Techno India. The students of classes XI and XII, who study Science, attended the session where they learnt about the various courses offered in the college, course structure, job prospects, campus life etc.

An Art and Craft Exhibition was organized at Garden High School on 22 and 23 November 2024. It was inaugurated by Mr. Subrata Gangopadhyay, an eminent artist.
The exhibition provided a platform for students to demonstrate their creativity. It also provided an opportunity for the students to learn about different techniques and materials used in crafting.
The exhibition displayed a wide range of artistic expressions including paintings, sculptures, drawings and crafts. The school premises and the exhibition halls were decorated beautifully with the exhibits and the artwork.
Workshops for clay modelling, linocut painting, canvas painting, mask making and lantern painting were held before the exhibition and those creations were on display.
Over 450 paintings and 2000 craft work created by more than 800 pupils from classes I to XII were exhibited. It was a visual treat, with colourful displays of various forms of art. The exhibition was a celebration of the artistic talents of the students.
The exhibition was well attended, and the exhibits were highly appreciated by parents and the visitors.

‘Quizzinius’ – an Inter-School Quiz Contest was hosted by Delhi Public School, Ruby Park on 22 and 23 November 2024.
Rudraneel Mandal (VIIID) bagged the ‘Best Quizzer’ award. He was awarded a medal.
The Junior General Quiz team of Garden High School comprising Riddhi Mukherjee (IV F) and Rupam Moyra (V D) secured the 3rd position.
In the Middle-School Sports and Environment Quiz, the Garden High School team represented by Aankhi Basu (VIII D) and Rudraneel Mandan (VIII D) won the 1st prize while the Senior General Quiz team was awarded the 2nd position.
The members of the senior team were Shourya Saha (IX D), Aishik Moitra (IX E), Anurag Sen (IX B) and Anusha Chowdhury (XI A).
The team competing in the Senior Pop Culture and Fandom Quiz secured the 2nd position. The participants were Shourya Saha (IX D) and Ritajeet Ghosh (IX A).

Garden High School participated in RoboCup 2024 held at Calcutta International School. It was a competition where each team was challenged to construct a robot using Lego Mindstorm EV3.
Garden High School secured the 3rd position in the contest. The participants were Adrij Dhar (VIII D), Ritabrata Banerjee (VIII D), Rudraneel Mandal (VIII D) and Sreshthangsu Srimani (VIII D). They were appreciated by the judges and awarded certificates.

Pupils of Classes III to XII.
Children’s Day began with a spectacular surprise for the students of Classes III, IV, V and VI as their teachers performed an assembly for them on this special occasion.
The programme opened with a short and humorous skit based on the importance of reading. The teachers dressed up as characters from familiar stories which intrigued the pupils. They greeted their teachers with loud cheers. This was followed by two short Bangla plays ‘Ajob Saja’ and ‘Rager Osudh’ and a recitation of the poem ‘Ahladi’, all written by Sukumar Ray. The last performance was a medley of songs which the children enjoyed immensely.
As a part of the Children’s Day celebration the pupils of Class IX were shown a movie based on Shakespeare’s ‘Julius Caesar’. Thereafter the teachers teaching Classes IX to XII put up a programme for the students which was based on the theme ‘A Typical Day at School’. It was a thrilling experience for the students to see their dear teachers outside their usual roles of teaching and disciplining them.
All students were given small gift packets by the school. The pupils enjoyed themselves thoroughly and returned home with joyous memories.

On Children’s Day, an interactive magic show was organised for the pupils of the primary department. They were thrilled with the experience and their laughter and excitement brought smiles to the faces of everyone around.
The teachers organised various fun-filled activities for the pupils. The pupils of Nursery I and II participated in a colouring activity. The little artists of the Preparatory class took part in a drawing activity. The children of Classes I and II displayed their skill in craft-making. The best three exhibits from each section were rewarded by their respective class teachers.
The day was filled with joy, learning and laughter. The children went back home carrying a small gift packet from school.

Selected students from Garden High School participated in ‘Avsar 2024: Mathemagica’, an Inter-School event based on Mathematics. This competition was organized by Akshar School.
Garden High School secured the 1st position in the contest named ‘Practical Guesstimation’. The participants were Kalpita Roy (VII C), Shreyan Dam (VIII A) and Debdipta Bandyopadhyay (VII A).
The 2nd position in ‘Pattern with Pascal’ went to Garden High School. Aarna Sen (VII F) and Ranadeep Roy (VIII A) were the participants.
Garden High School also bagged the 3rd position in ‘Ignited Minds’. The team included Arhon Guha Mazumder (IX C), Spandan Bhattacharya (IX D) and Rudraveer Mandal (IX E).
Ritoja Mukherjee Pachal (VIII C) was awarded the 1st prize and Atri Bhattacharya (VIII E) was awarded the 3rd prize in the event named ‘Math Whizz Junior’.
Raul Chowdhury (IX C) bagged the 2nd prize and Rishit Dutta (IX C) secured the 3rd prize in ‘Math Whizz Senior’.

All students of Class XI – Humanities.
The students of Class XI (Humanities section) who studies Geography, along with two teachers, visited the silk manufacturing industries at Berhampore, Murshidabad. This field trip was a part of their ISC Geography project.
The students visited the Bharat Khadi Sevak Sangha where they witnessed the local women spinning cotton yarn into threads. They also paid a visit to the Central Sericulture Research and Training Institute where they saw how threads of silk are taken out from the cocoons and processed for further use. There they also visited the very popular bell metal shops.
The trip was educational and informative for the students. It enabled them to study in detail the workings of an actual industry and it further deepened their understanding of sustainable agricultural practices.

Selected students from classes III, IV and V took part in an Inter-house Junior Quiz Competition on 7 November 2024. There were two teams from each of the four houses. Each team consisted of three participants.
Renowned quiz master Mr Andrew Scolt from Derek O’Brian & Associates conducted the quiz. The participants actively took part in the quiz competition which comprised a variety of rounds.
Team Cedar-1 secured the 1st position and Team Oak-1 secured the 2nd position. The 3rd position was secured by Team Chinar-2.
The Quiz Competition was an enriching and enjoyable experience for all the pupils.
Pupils of XI D.
Students of Class XI (Humanities) participated in a workshop and an awareness programme for Dyslexia organised by Calcutta Debating Circle. The event started with a panel discussion among esteemed guests from different fields like medicine, psychiatry, psychology, special education and education. Some of the guests and panel members were Dr Arundhuti Sarkar, Mrs Menon Mukherjee and Ms Debasree Banerjee.
The panel members made the children aware of dyslexia, the importance of early identification and measures that can be taken to help children with dyslexia. The event ended with a Q&A session which included interaction with the audience. It was an extremely informative session for all.

Satikanta Guha Foundation has partnered with Alliance Française du Bengale to introduce French language for students of Classes V to XII of Garden High School Kolkata.
The French Club will focus on interactive games, creative role-plays, and activities designed to give students an understanding of the French language and culture.
The club will also provide students with cultural understanding of France, covering topics such as art, history and traditions, making the learning experience more holistic and enriching. This partnership reflects a commitment to making language learning more accessible and enjoyable for students.

An interactive Youth Empowerment Programme (Financial Education) was conducted by Arunava Bhattacharya (Chief Executive – International Finance Association, IIT Kharagpur) and his team.
Various topics of finance such as time value of money, risk-return dynamics, managing debt, understanding income taxes, savings and budgeting were discussed.
The pupils were empowered and equipped with essential knowledge about personal finance. They received valuable insights on financial education. They were provided with essential knowledge and skills for making informed financial decisions in the future.

La Martiniere for Boys School hosted La Concurrence an Inter-school fest on 4 and 5 October 2024. Sixteen schools participated in a variety of competitive events such as Shark Tank, Finance and Trading, Cricket Auction, Moot Court, Quiz, Spell Bee, Bengali Extempore, Photography, Slam Poetry and curation of a Travel Brochure.
Garden High School bagged the 1st position in Bengali Extempore competition ‘La Vox’. Ananda Basu of class XII-A was declared the best speaker. His teammates were Anusha Chowdhury (XI-A), Sreenita Banerjee (XI-D) and Titas Sengupta (XI-D).
Garden High School also secured the 2nd position in ‘La Tourisme’ (Travel Brochure) where Aayan Mukhopadhyay (X-C) and Koumudi Bhattacharjee (X-C) created an impressive Travel Brochure of Janjira Fort, Maharashtra.
Garden High School was placed 3rd in ‘La Dictionnaire’ (Spell Bee). The participants were Toshani Basu (IX-E) and Atraiu Ghosh (IX-E).

An interactive session was conducted for pupils of class XI by Ms. Sucharita Basu and Ms. Rashmi Chakraborty of ‘Stratosphere’ – a career guidance organization. The pupils received valuable information on opportunities in higher education in India and abroad. They were given participation certificates at the end of the event.
ALL STUDENTS OF CLASS VI.
In the first half of day 1 students of class VI participated in a jam session which helped them to improve their presentation skills, communication skills as well as build their confidence. The chosen topics for the jam session were ‘a prank gone wrong’, ‘craziest things found inside library books’, ‘the secret life of students when the teacher leaves the classroom’ and a few others. The students displayed their creativity and imagination and came up with some interesting anecdotes. They then actively applied their knowledge in an interesting quiz session. Thereafter the students enjoyed themselves in a brief session of no-fire cooking. They prepared delicious food items using dry ingredients, then presented their dishes beautifully and shared the food with friends and teachers.
In the second half of day 1 the students showcased their creativity by crafting beautiful items like pen-stands, wall-hangings, paper-mache models and flower vases out of recyclable and reusable materials like plastic bottles, used cardboard boxes, old newspapers, plastic straws, paper cups and much more under the event ‘best out of waste.’
In the first half of day 2, students of class VI engaged themselves in the preparation of charts, models, posters based on the sustainable development goal 13: Climate Action. A brief demonstration was also arranged by the students to make complex concepts like greenhouse effect, effects of climate change on weather, recognizing the various ways to reduce the impact of climate change, easier to understand.
In the second half of the day 2 a brief session of vernacular story telling was organised for the students where they shared their experiences and considered and appreciated others’ perspectives. A session on vernacular recitation was also organized for the students which proved to be an effective way of learning the language and appreciating a piece of literature. The students were also engaged in fun activities like solving worksheets on sudoku, crosswords and puzzles.
In the first half of day 3 a collage making session was organized for the students of class VI where the students created collages using cutouts from newspapers and magazines. Students also glued images on their sheets to create stories. Students were shown the movie ‘Matilda’ in the second half of the day for their recreation and relaxation.
The students enjoyed participating in the activities planned for them; at the same time, it was a rich learning experience for them.
ALL PUPILS OF CLASS VII.
On Day 1 for the ‘Best Out of Waste’ activity the pupils used various types of waste materials to make useful products and showcased their creativity. Thereafter the pupils enjoyed a quiz session. This was followed by a JAM session in which the students were provided various topics like ‘Your favourite book’, ‘How to have fun without technology’, ‘If I had three wishes’ and they were asked to speak for one minute on those topics. They also enjoyed enacting the characters of their role models in a game of role play.
On Day 2 the pupils watched the movie ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.’ In the second half of the day, they collaborated on a Social Studies Project based on the Mughal Period.
On Day 3 the students enjoyed a session of No-Fire Cooking in the first half of the day. This was followed by a project on the SDG Goal 14 – Life Below Water. Thereafter the students participated in an activity based on recitation of poems in the vernacular and drawing pictures on any one situation from the poems read.
These activities were enjoyable as well as great learning experiences for all the pupils.
ALL PUPILS OF CLASS VIII.
Students of Class VIII took part in various activities on the three days scheduled as ‘Bagless Days’ in the months of September and October.
On day one, the students watched the movie ‘Annie’ in the first half of the day. They then prepared a skit, drawing inspiration from English Literature. They then presented it before their peers and teachers in their classrooms.
On the second day, the students were engaged in no-fire cooking activities. Pupils across classes prepared a range of delectable dishes, each of which was representative of either an Indian state or a foreign country. This was followed by an activity related to the subject Geography. The students made presentations on the various aspects of the different states of India, covering topics such as tourism, physical features and socio-cultural features of the chosen states.
On the third day, a poster-making activity was organized across all sections. A few topics were given, out of which each pupil had to select one and make a poster on it. The second half of the day saw the pupils making charts and models on a chosen topic from their syllabus in History. They had to present their creation before their classmates and speak on it.
The students enjoyed participating in the activities planned; at the same time, it was a rich learning experience for them.

The prestigious CISCE National Tennis Tournament for Boys & Girls was held at Bengal Tennis Association from 30 September 2024 to 4 October 2024.
Kaunish Das of class XA of Garden High School won the Gold medal in the Doubles category of Under-17 boys. He has also been selected for the SGFI National Games 2024.

Garden High School took part in a non-competitive Science Fest held at The Indian Museum. Twenty-one schools participated in the event. The participants carried their models and assembled them at the venue. The models were based on SDG Goals 3, 6 and 7.
The pupils of Garden High School exhibited a model on SDG 6 ‘Clean water and sanitation for all’. The students got a wonderful opportunity to present their thoughts as well as learn from other creations. The exhibits of the budding scientists were innovative and their efforts commendable.

Vibgyor 2024, an Interschool Fest of the Primary Section was organised by M.P. Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School on 27 September 2024. Twelve schools from across the city participated in it. The audience was enthralled by the delightful performances of the young boys and girls.

On the first day of Bagless Day activities the students of class III watched the film ‘Stuart Little’ which they enjoyed immensely. It was followed by a Best-out-of-waste activity. Here the students displayed their creativity by making useful items out of waste materials. They learnt the importance of reuse, reduce and recycle.
The next day was also eventful. The students started the day with a yoga session, where they learnt various ‘asanas’ and practised them under the guidance of the teachers. After this fitness activity, the pupils took part in a Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) project. They created posters on their chosen goal, wrote about their rights and responsibilities and presented them in front of the class. They ended the day by making chef’s caps for the following day’s event.
The students had an exciting finish to the Bagless Day events as they got an opportunity to become mini-chefs for a day. Our chefs masterfully made a delicious two-course meal for their tiffin in a no-fire cooking event. Later in the day the children showcased their talents through different performances in a Talent Hunt show.
During this three-day programme the children got a break from their textbooks and enjoyed themselves thoroughly, while learning new skills in the process.
ALL STUDENTS OF CLASS IV.
The first activity of Day 1 was No Fire Cooking. Children prepared delectable and delicious food items with different ingredients. They were guided and given instructions by their teachers. They wore aprons, disposable gloves and chef’s hats which they had made themselves. The children took care to keep their workstations tidy. They also filled out a worksheet on healthy eating habits. They shared the food they had made with friends and teachers during recess. After recess, the children watched the film ‘Home Alone’. They found it thoroughly entertaining and on returning to their classrooms, drew the scenes they had enjoyed the most.
On Day 2 the children did craftwork on the theme Best Out of Waste in the first half of the day. They used waste material to make creative craftwork. They prepared items such as pencil stands, flower vases, photo frames, newspaper bags, windmills and other innovative creations. In the second half of the day the students worked on Storyboarding. The teachers explained to the students the concept of storyboarding in the context of visual storytelling. The children then drew out their own stories and presented their boards in front of their classmates.
On Day 3 the students made charts on Sustainable Development Goals in the first half of the day. They were divided into groups and they worked in collaboration on ‘Quality Education’, ‘Zero Hunger’, ‘Life Below Water’ and ‘Good Health and Well-Being’. After they had finished their preparation, they presented their work before their classmates and sensitized them to the topic. The charts were pinned on the classroom softboards.
For their final project children made masks. They painted cut outs of masks and decorated them in the classroom. Masks of animals, superheroes and some truly unique designs were on display.
ALL STUDENTS OF CLASS V.
In the first half of day 1 students of Class V showcased their creativity by crafting beautiful items like pen stands, wall-hangings, paper-mache models and flower vases out of recyclable and reusable materials like plastic bottles, used cardboard boxes, old newspapers, plastic straws, paper cups and much more under the event ‘best out of waste.’ Thereafter a half-day yoga session was organised for the students where they learnt and practised various asanas and meditated for a while to relax the mind, body and soul.
On day 2 the students enjoyed themselves by engaging in a brief session of no-fire cooking. They prepared delicious food items using various ingredients. Then they presented their beautifully garnished dishes and shared the food with friends and teachers.
Later in the day a brief session was organised for the students to write and present skits on topics of their choice. They enacted these skits in small groups. The skits dealt with themes like technology and its usage in the modern era, climate change and many more.
In the first half of day 3 the students of Class V wrote and delivered brief speeches on the culture, heritage, food, clothing, festivals, and language of an Indian state of their choice. They made colourful posters and charts on the same and displayed them while delivering their speeches.
‘A picture is worth a thousand words’ and the students of Class V proved the same by narrating stories through painted pictures in the last event ‘storyboarding.’ They created comic strips or blurbs based on a story of their choice and enjoyed the brief session of storyboarding in class.
14 CUBS AND 8 BULBULS OF SECOND EXPLORERS’ GROUP FROM GARDEN HIGH SCHOOL.
On 21 and 22 September 2024, fourteen Cubs and eight Bulbuls of Second Explorers’ Group from Garden High School participated in the Annual One Night Camp. The camp was held in Shilla Villa, a resort in Dhuturdaha near Ghatakpukur, approximately 40 km from Garden High School. The Bulbuls and Cubs were accompanied by three Flock Leaders and three Cub Masters.
The pupils reached the destination at 11.30 a.m. After a short break, a session of creating handicrafts and paintings using natural colours was organised. This was followed by a sumptuous lunch and an hour of compulsory rest. In the evening the Bulbuls and Cubs played Treasure Hunt and other outdoor games. Thereafter the Bulbuls and Cubs organised a cultural programme round the campfire. The day ended with exciting night games and dinner.
The second day started with exercises and breakfast followed by a one-kilometre hike to the nearby primary school where they interacted with the Principal of the school. On their return to the resort the Bulbul and Cubs prepared a report of their morning activities. This was followed by a dip in the pool and lunch. The Cubs and Bulbuls then began their journey back to Garden High School. They reached the school at 4 p.m. where they were handed over to their parents.
The camp was a great learning experience and helped in the all-round development of the children. The Cubs and Bulbuls thoroughly enjoyed themselves in the lap of nature and was introduced to the basic skills required to grow as independent and self-sufficient human beings.

Students of Garden High School took part in Sanlaap 2024, a literary meet organized by The Heritage School. The pupils participated in an interactive session with three authors Ms. Sohini Sen, Ms. Madhurima Vidyarthi and Ms. Swati Sengupta. This was followed by a Literary Quiz and a Creative Writing competition.
The Garden High School quiz team from classes IV and V bagged the 1st Runner up position. The teams from classes VI and VII and class VIII secured the 2nd runner up positions in their individual quiz contests.
In the creative writing competitions Garden High School made a mark with Riddhi Roychoudhury of class VI D and Shreyan Dam of class VIII A receiving the 1st prizes in their respective events.

Anurag Sen of Class IXB secured the first position in the National level in his category (U-17, Weight: 73-78 kg) in the CISCE NATIONAL GAMES & SPORTS (Taekwondo Competition) 2024.

Classes I and II.
Swachhata Pakhawada, an initiative by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, was observed on 1 September and 6 September, 2024.
The pupils of Classes I and II were shown power point presentations and videos on the importance of cleanliness and good hygiene habits. They were encouraged to contribute to usher in a ‘Clean India’.
Children took a pledge to keep their surroundings clean. They made colourful posters and various other craft items on the occasion of ‘Green Drive Day’.
It was a great learning experience for the little ones.
SELECTED STUDENTS FROM CLASSES IV TO XI.
The observance began with the hoisting of the National Flag in the school premises. A variety programme was held to acknowledge the contribution of the Indian freedom fighters of the past and frontier soldiers of the present times. The students put on a splendid show that included patriotic songs, dances and recitation. The performances were a rich tribute to the diversity and richness of India’s culture.
The programme concluded with the National Anthem. It was wonderful to witness the students of Garden High School paying such a heart-warming tribute to our nation.
Pupils of Nursery 1 – Class II.
The little learners of Nursery II and the Preparatory Class presented a short programme to celebrate our 78th Independence Day. They danced merrily to famous patriotic songs sung by the children in Hindi, English and Bengali. Some of them were dressed as freedom fighters and enacted their parts well. The teachers introduced each noble freedom fighter by sharing a brief outline of their lives.
The pupils of Nursery I and Classes I and II sang patriotic songs, wearing handmade, tricolour headgears and badges.
The children enjoyed themselves as much as the teachers enjoyed preparing them. The young ones learnt about their nation’s history and the importance of freedom through the performances. The efforts put in by the performers were lauded and appreciated by everyone.

PUPILS OF CLASSES XI AND XII.
It was conducted by Prof. Dr. Kaushik Sil and Dr. Sachindra Rao. It was an interactive session, where the students were informed about the various steps that can be taken to prevent the growth and spread of Thalassemia in the country.
The interactive session was for the pupils to have an understanding of Thalassemia, a genetic blood disorder.
The programme was very informative and provided valuable insights.

Garden High School organized an AI and Robotics Workshop for the pupils of Classes VI and VII. The workshop was attended by 188 pupils.
Under the supervision of Mr. Sourbh Kumar of XRobotics Works the pupils were guided and encouraged to make a manual robot by themselves.
The winning teams of each day competed against each other on the final day of the workshop. They navigated their Manual Robots over a track of undulating terrain.
The team which overcame the obstacles in the shortest time was declared the winner.

Selected pupils of Class XI.
Nineteen pupils from Class XI were selected to participate in the Canvas Painting Workshop. The size of the canvas provided was 4×4 feet each. Using the techniques demonstrated they created their artwork with acrylic paints of various colours.
The pupils were divided into groups and they produced 5 beautiful art pieces during the workshop. The workshop included a collaborative painting exercise, where participants worked in groups to create a single piece of art. This activity fostered teamwork and allowed participants to learn from each other.
It was an enriching experience for all the participants.

Kushagra Mandal of VII C, was felicitated at BITM ( Birla Institute and Technological Museum). He had qualified in the first level – Digital Examination of Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan (VVM 2023-24) and had been selected for the State Level camp.
At the State Level camp, he was declared one of the zonal winners and he stood second from the East Zone. He also qualified for the National Camp.

In CASSEMBLE, Aritra Roy (VIIIF) and Aratrika Naskar(VIA) worked with a participant from an NGO (Dhakuria Society for Education and Expression) to create an eco-friendly 3D model of a wind turbine. They secured the third position.
In PICASSO, a competition based on Musical Compositions and Fractals, Sagarika Sengupta(VIIE), Aarna Sen(VIIF) and Raisa Deb(VIIIC) secured the first position.
CASCADE was an exciting fusion of mathematical puzzles and physical challenges. Ritoja Mukherjee Pachal(VIIIC) secured the first position.
In CASTING CALL, the groundbreaking accomplishments of famous scientists were highlighted through a skit set in modern times. Team Garden High secured the second position in the event.

Garden High School participated in a non-competitive Junior School fun fest. 21 pupils participated from Garden High School. There were participants from 16 other schools.
The children were given certificates of participation and the team also got a set of eight story books. They participated in various categories like Play with Clay, Paint Your Imagination, Sing Along, Rhythm Divine, Speechless (mime), Scien-terrific, Spin a Yarn and Court-ship (table tennis).

Garden High School had the honour of hosting the Regional Painting Competition 2024 of Fr. George Hess Memorial Literary Competitions – ASISC (WB & NE States).
Mrs Mousumi Saha, Assistant Secretary of ASISC ( WB and N E States) and Principal of National English School graced the occasion.
The competition was divided into three categories, namely Sub Junior, Junior and Senior. Each category had a different topic. The topics were sent 15 minutes prior to the event by ASISC and the duration of the competition was from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The judges for this competition were Mr Biswanath Dasgupta, Creative Director & Editor in-charge TTIS, Mr. Subrata Barman, a passionate and accomplished artist and Ms Dipa Karmakar, an artist specializing in Painting, Serigraphy, Printmaking and Sculpture.

Garden High School participated in a series of events at ‘Unmesh’, a fest celebrating the arts of Bengal hosted by Indus Valley World School. The pupils attended a number of interesting workshops on folk music, art, illustration in books, theatre, cookery and film appreciation. They also participated in a quiz competition on Bengali vocabulary and spelling.
It was a learning and an enriching experience for them.

Garden High School hosted an International University fair in which thirty-eight universities from Canada, Japan, USA, UK and other European nations participated.
Pupils of Classes X, XI and XII had the opportunity to interact with the representatives of these universities and gather information about the courses, admission procedures and scholarships.

The Investiture Ceremony 2024-25 successfully inducted the Office Bearers of the School’s Prefectorial Board. Our Principal Mrs Rajashri Biswas handed over the flags to the Head Boy, Head Girl and the Captains of the Houses. The Office Bearers took the oath pledging to serve their Alma Mater with utmost sincerity and to the best of their ability. Our Pro-Rector Mrs Kavita Guha was unable to attend the ceremony, however, she sent a message for all the office bearers which was conveyed by Principal Ma’am. The Principal also congratulated the newly elected office bearers and emphasized the significance of being team players.

Selected pupils of Class VIII.
Forty eight pupils of Class VIII participated in a Clay Modelling and Sculpture workshop. The pupils were introduced to the basic techniques of clay modelling. They were encouraged to explore the potential of clay as a medium of artistic creation. The participants created their own clay models under expert guidance.
Mrinal Kanti Gayen, Assistant Professor of Department of Sculpture, Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata, visited the school as a distinguished guest on 04 July 2024. He spent some time with the pupils. The workshop featured an engaging and in-depth sculpting demonstration by Prof. Gayen.
It inspired the participants to apply the techniques they learnt in their own creative endeavours.
Anusha Chowdhury of Class XI A.
Anusha Chowdhury of Class XIA participated in the final round of “Debating Excellence 2024”, organized by the Calcutta Debating Circle, in association with NIT and JIS Group. The Motion was: “Parents should tell their children that they can achieve anything.”
The session was moderated by the Managing Trustee of CDC, Dr Kunal Sarkar and a senior mentor from King’s College, London, Mr. Jordan Anderson. Anusha competed with speakers from several other schools and foreign universities and was awarded the second runner-up prize.
It was a wonderful learning experience for Anusha.
Classes III to XII.
Garden High School in association with Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy conducted a chess competition for the pupils of Classes III to XII. The participants were divided into two groups: Junior Group (Classes III to V) and Senior Group (Classes VI to XII).
Samriddho Gupta of Class IIIA stood first, Ayanshi Sengupta of class IIID stood second and Adhish Mishra of Class VB came third in the Junior Category. Atrinjay Saha of Class XC came first, Anshujit Kumar Saha of Class VIIIA came second and Sheersonno Biswas of Class XIIA came third in the Senior category.
The prizes were given away by Koustav Chatterjee, the 79th Grandmaster of India, who is also an ex-student of our school. Koustav shared his experiences with the young chess players and inspired them to follow their passion for the game.
Classes IX to XII.
Calcutta Debating Circle conducted a debate workshop for the pupils of Classes IX to XII. The participants were mentored by debaters from Cambridge University, London School of Economics, Harvard University, Kings College London, SOAS University of London.
This was followed by an exhibition debate on the topic ‘Film and Music Awards Do More Harm Than Good’. Few students were selected to participate. Swayam Mukhopadhyay (IX B) was the second runner up, Anirup Sain (XI C) the first runner up and Anusha Chowdhury (XI A) the winner of the debate.
The session was graced by the trustees of Calcutta Debating Circle, Dr Kunal Sarkar, Sri Pradeep Gooptu and Sri Raju Raman.
It was an immense learning experience for all the participants.

Pupils of Garden High School submitted a model on RURAL WATER KIOSK, which was eco-friendly and catered to the various Sustainable Development Goals.
The model was a combination of hardware and software 3D simulation. The first stage of this hybrid competition was conducted online.
The participants presented their model and spoke confidently. They were questioned on various aspects of the WATER KIOSK including the probable cost of the set up and practicality of the model, which they answered satisfactorily. They also explained how it could be could be marketed easily.
Our pupils placed second among 40 schools from all over India. Well done GHS!

Ms Neena Biswas from Sunetra conducted a session on children’s eye health. She explained the close connection between proper vision and classroom learning. Teachers were made aware of the methods to spot learning disabilities stemming from eye problems and not behavioral issues. It was a very informative and an enriching session.

KUSHAGRA MANDAL-CLASS VIIC.
Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan (VVM) is a science-based examination for the pupils of grades VI to XI, under the initiative of Vijnana Bharati, in collaboration with NCERT, Government of India and National Council of Science Museum (NCSM).
Kushagra Mandal had qualified in the first level digital examination of VVM and had been selected for the State Level camp. Kushagra stood second in the State Level Camp and qualified for the National Level Camp.
Kushagra was declared one of the zonal winners and stood second from the East Zone. He received a memento and a cash prize of ₹3000. He is now eligible for the SRIJAN internship programme to be held in Chandigarh from 15 July to 19 July 2024.
PUPILS OF CLASSES IV TO XII.
Pupils of Garden High School celebrated the 163rd birth anniversary of Kobiguru Rabinranath Tagore.
In the programme Ami Tarei Khuje Berai they portrayed his ideas of religion, education and nationalism, which is relevant even today, through music, dance, recitation and drama. The programme was well appreciated by all present.
Classes IX to XI.
Garden High School took part in twelve events in the inter-school fest, Jubilare’24. Team Garden High was adjudged third in the film-making event ‘Cine Magic’. The participants of this event were Devaarto Ganguli (IXE), Rudraveer Mandal (IXE), Debjani Baidya (IXE), Mayuri Chakraborty (IXE), Agni Chatterjee (IXB) and Aaron Dey (IXA). In the science model-making event, ‘Eureka!’, Garden High again won the third position and the participants were Arhon Guha Mazumdar(IXC), Raul Chowdhury(IXC) and Rishit Dutta(IXC).
Overall, Garden High School secured the third position.

The Indus Valley World School, on World Earth Day, conducted a workshop for children of Classes 4, 5 and 6 from fifteen schools, to raise awareness about the impact that climate change has on our lives, and to allow students to collaborate with their peers to find solutions for a safe and sustainable world for all.
Seven children from Garden High School took part in this programme. The non-competitive interactive workshop began with the students watching two films, Anders Artig and Ponds of Mirror, which was followed by a discussion on the topic.
The children participated in an art workshop to learn Eco print and they also took part in dance and music workshops. After these intensive but enjoyable learning sessions the students collectively presented their work in front of an audience.
Through this interaction the children made new friends and learnt about the importance of protecting our home, Earth.

Garden High School participated in the NSHM Sports Quiz held at the NSHM College Campus. Both the teams qualified for the finals. In a nail biting finish both teams did GHS proud. TEAM A secured the 2nd position and TEAM B secured the 3rd position.

The pupils of Garden High School interacted with international STEAM outreach specialist Mr. Sam Gibbs in a half-day camp titled Space Odyssey. He emphasized and explained the following points with fun filled demonstrations:
Our students asked relevant question during the interactive session and performed hands on experiments. It was a wonderful and enjoyable learning experience for the students.

Reeyansh Ray, participated at the regional level in one of the prestigious competitions of Robotics and Coding, Codeavour 5.0.
He was a solo participant and made a SMART DOOR. He secured the 3rd position in this competition.

Ritushna Roy – Nursery II B.
Ritushna Roy of Nursery II B has achieved the record for being the fastest kid in India to answer 50 General Knowledge questions in 1 minute, 25 seconds and 68 milliseconds. She has been registered for the same in the India Book of Records 2024.
